Random Ramble warning…

A rather dapper older gentleman (epic hipster-style beard, chocolate brown felt trilby - you get the picture) sitting astride a mobility scooter has just zipped by the shop with his lovely lady friend (emerald green cardi, shimmering silver hair - the devil is in the detail my friends) zipping along behind him. They were dutifully admiring our window when the dapper gentleman drew breath and mused aloud (presumably to his lovely lady or perhaps he is by nature a vocal muser whether in company or alone, I cannot be sure), “I just don’t know how these little shops survive…”
And it took, dear reader, all my will power not to shout out “Nor do I Sir, nor do I!!!”
But I didn’t.
As I am by nature a shy, retiring kind of lady-bookshop-owner. Plus I was humming along to George Ezra at the time, and had a mouthful of raspberries.
But seriously, what is a bookseller to do? We’ve had only one (utterly charming) customer today, and two (equally charming and most amusing) customers yesterday. In my heart I know our little book haven is loved, and we have so many fiercely loyal customers and friends. But on days like today I do find myself wondering how much longer we can keep this little bookshop dream afloat…

Thank you to everyone for your help in giving our sloth such a long and distinguished set of names - and thank you to Stella for coming up with ‘Speedy’, we think it suits him perfectly!

We’re off to the American School of The Hague’s Spring Market on Saturday!

When: Saturday 14th May, 10am-2pm
Where: American School of The Hague, Wassenaar

Our fabulous Hazel will fly the shop-shop from 12-4pm while Lou is at the market - but there will be no Saturday Story Time session, sorry!

There will be lots and lots of great makers, indie shops, small businesses and kiddie-friendly activities at the ASH Spring Fair - so why not come along and join in the fun, EVERYONE IS WELCOME!
