The first picture is of me, Lou, five years ago today, on the very first day that we opened the doors of The Little Bookshop.

I’m smiling, but behind that smile I am truly terrified…
Will anyone come to the opening - will we sell any books - is my dream of owning my own bookshop just total madness…??

But, I am eternally grateful to say, that yes, you - our lovely customers and friends - did come, and carried on coming all day, totally surpassing all my hopes and dreams. And then, to my amazement, you carried on coming - through the madness that was Brexit, through the fear and stress that were the Covid years, and even now despite the insanity of the rising cost-of-living crisis. And for that, and for anyone who has ever stepped through our door, I am eternally and indescribably grateful.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Some people spend their whole life chasing their dream - but thanks to you I have had the honour and privilege of living mine.
I am a bookseller and a bookshop owner - and I couldn’t have done any of it without all of you fabulous book-lovers and readers.

A friend once told me, there’s only one thing harder than opening a business, and that is closing one.

I know news travels fast in our little corner of the world, so many of you already know, but The Little Bookshop will be closing her doors for the last time on December 23rd 2023.

I am sad beyond words, but I am so very very proud of everything we have achieved and the lives we have touched along the way. I always said I would know when the time had come to end this chapter, and I wanted it to be on my terms and not because the library wanted their book back…

So, let’s not think of this as a goodbye, more of a we’ll meet again soon x
